Check list:

  1. Revise:
    * dependent and independent events;
    * the product rule for independent events: P(A and B) = P(A) x P(B).
    * the sum rule for mutually exclusive events A and B: P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B)
    * the identity: P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B)
    * the complementary rule: P(not A) = 1 - P(A)
  2. Probability problems using Venn diagrams, tress, two-way contingency tables and other techniques (like the fundamental counting principle) to solve probability problems (where events are not necessarily independent).
  3. Apply the fundamental counting principle to solve probability problems.

Learn the concepts:

Other the years (decades), Mathematicians have developed ways to calculate the probability of certain events occurring, and have used numbers as a comparison tool. In Grade 12 we explore different methods to calculate probability and it can be a lot of fun. Remember, use drawings to help you to understand what's being asked!
